Since 2013, Amahoro Builders (AB) has been a champion for children, youth, men and women to fight against domestic violence, the main cause of social and economic insecurity. Committed to build and promote the culture of peace in the family, counselling is key to AB’s activities to healing the wounded hearts and create a viable and protective environment where the rights of everybody in family are nurtured and respected. AB puts a special focus to Children’s department which is considered as a ground basis of peace building. The best time to start equipping peace builders, to make good leaders, and create the foundation of the family well being . Rwandan families are facing growing challenges including conflicts, domestic violence, sexual abuse, divorce, poverty, infidelity , alcohol and drug abuse. Children born in this critical family environment are neglected and this becomes push factor to leave their families to the street where they are initiated to consume drugs to cope with the hard situation of the street lifestyle. Unhealth family environment is also the major cause of early pregnancies and school dropout. Based on Law No 04/2012 of 17/02/2012, regulating Local and Non Governmental Organizations, AB headquarter is located in Kicukiro, Kabeza Sector, registration number 154/RGB/NGO/LP/11/2017

AB DEPARTEMENT

Children are the ground basis of peace building. If the focus of a child’s development is put on physical and cognitive growth, the socio-emotional and spiritual growth will delay its accomplishments. As a pillar of each society, children have to be nurtured, protected and given a space of growing holistically to enable them to accomplish their today’s vision for a bright future. AB intends to raise parents, church and communities’ awareness to offer to children this space of holistic transformation. Today’s child will be tomorrow’s youth, leaders and future head of families. The best time to start equipping peace builders and good leaders and to dispose a solid foundation of the family well being is the childhood. Potential and vulnerable, children constitute an important portion of the population and particularly with religious communities that are unique and irreplaceable agents to shape the priorities of children towards their future. If this foundation is well settled, the future of the nation is established (UNICEF and Religions for Peace 2010). Children will not be ‘tomorrow’s peacebuilders and good leaders, unless they are socialized and educated in a substantial context to develop their skills and talents.

One of AB's strategies for social and economic transformation starts with individual, group, and home-based counseling. Graduates of these programs receive training in small business skills and the creation of community savings and loan groups, preparing them to launch their own businesses. This culture of cooperation promotes holistic change, empowering youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive positive change. The groups meet monthly for ongoing learning and experience sharing, further supporting their development while fostering a strong sense of community and peacebuilding.

Parents play a crucial role in providing a solid foundation for their children, imparting cultural values and norms. This socialization process goes beyond simply instructing children on what is right or wrong; it is deeply influenced by what they observe, experience and sense in their environment. The stability of a child's character is rooted in the family’s initial teachings and the broader social integration that ensures the continuity of shared community values (Giddens & Sutton, 2017). One of the most effective ways to strengthen family dynamics is through counseling individual, group and home-based counseling focused on building and maintaining peace between spouses, educating parents about human rights, gender complementarity and conflict resolution. These counseling sessions help families navigate and prevent conflicts, ensuring peaceful, loving relationships. When families are supported in resolving domestic violence, sexual abuse and other issues, they are more likely to break free from cycles of poverty. Social and economic transformation can thrive when family members live in harmony. In this environment, training in small business income generation becomes a powerful tool for change. With proper skills and seed capital to finance small projects, families can pool their resources, fostering collaboration and success. The complementarity of spouses, working together as equal partners becomes a vital asset for sustainable transformation. By strengthening family bonds and promoting peaceful co-existence, families are better equipped to contribute to both their personal and community development.

NGIRAKAMARO Fabrice.jpg

With no stable home or guidance, i struggled to survive each day. Despite the odds, I never gave up hope for a better future. Through the support of a local AB, i was given the chance to attend school, and i poured my heart into my studies. Today, I am a university student, pursuing a degree in engineering and inspiring others with his journey from the streets to the classroom. My story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of opportunity.
